Kodiak FC vs Park Bums

Last Saturday, Kodiak FC played Park Bums at Storm Mountain Park.  The weekend before, Kodiak played in their very first tournament up in Seattle, Washington.  At the tournament, Kodiak played four games, winning 2, equalizing 1, and losing in the final.  They took second at the tournament.  We are proud of the guys!  They did great, especially considering that this is their first season playing together.

Back to Saturday, Kodiak FC started out strong, with Parker Howell scoring two in the first half.  After the half, Kodiak lost some of their momentum to Park Bums.  Park Bums scored early in the second half.  With a couple minutes left to play, Park Bums were able to equalize the game.

The game ended in a shoot out.  Fortunately, Kodiak won 4-2 in shootouts.

Thanks for another great weekend game, Kodiak!

(Sorry, no pics today!  We will have more next week!)

Kodiak FC vs Joga

Kodiak FC has been looking forward to the game that they played today.  Both Kodiak FC and Joga have had only victories and were looking forward to see who would keep their winning streak.

Early on in the first half, Spencer Luczak took the ball down the left side of the pitch, cut the ball inside, and aimed at the far post, putting Kodiak up 1-0.  About 20 minutes after, Scott Burrows on a corner kick, served the ball in.  It was Mike Erekson who found the ball and headed it in past Joga's keeper.  At half, Kodiak was up 2-0.  The final goal came about 15 minutes into the 2nd half.  Scott Burrows took the ball to his right side, fired, and found the back of the net.  He was assisted by Stephen Phillips.

Both teams had excellent plays and made a few mistakes.  It was not an easy game for Kodiak's defense.  They had to play hard in order to keep Joga off of the board.  Rock Christeson, the keeper of Kodiak, made many excellent saves, maintaining Kodiak's fourth victory, let alone, another shutout.

Next Saturday, these two teams meet again, on the same field, at 5:00pm.

Kodiak FC vs Avengers FC

Today was a beautiful day in Utah for a soccer game.  At 3:00pm, Kodiak FC met Avengers FC on the pitch of Oquirrh Elementary in West Jordan.  Both teams came out ready to play.  Kodiak FC had good team chemistry and found the back of the net 8 times during the 90 minutes of play.  Avengers FC was not so lucky, however, they did have great moments and hit the cross bar a few times.  If it was not for Kodiak FC's keeper, Rock Christeson, and his defense, Avengers would have had a couple goals for their team.  Everyone on both teams portrayed genuine sportsmanship.  During the entire game, no yellow card warnings were issued.

Kodiak FC's leading goal scorer was Josh Kimball with a hat trick.
Next was Stephen Phillips and Scott Burrows with two a piece.
Danny Duke, who was playing sweeper, made excellent runs, and capitalized on one run, scoring a goal.

Kodiak FC vs Mutiny FC

Kodiak FC hosted Mutiny FC this morning at Alta High School.  The weather was perfect for a morning game in the spring, being 65 degrees, sunny, and a little wind to keep the teams cool.

Parker Howell was first to score a goal, finding the back of the net within the first few minutes of the game.  Kodiak started strong and had great passing chemistry.  Unfortunately, the next goal was Mutiny's.  They claimed their point off of a penalty kick.  Before the half, Kevin Young, of Kodiak FC, was fouled in his offensive box, winning us a penalty kick.  Stephen Phillips took advantage of that opportunity and put Kodiak FC up 2-1 before the half.

In the second half, Kodiak continued to have good passing and defense, as did Mutiny FC.  Kevin Young had a great cross into the offensive box.  Josh Kimball, who was lurking in the area, came in with a great touch on the ball and scored.

Both teams were playing strong and had great defense, almost seemingly leaving the score at 3-1.  But, Mutiny FC was not done.  They had the next goal putting them just 1 goal away from equalizing the game.

Before the end of the game, Kodiak FC was fouled, once again, in the offensive box earning yet another penalty kick.  One of Mutiny's defenders took Stephen Phillips feet out from behind.  Scott Burrows took the ball to the bottom right corner of the net and brought Kodiak up 4-2.

Mutiny FC's offense did test Kodiak's defense, but Mike Erekson, Mark Stoker, Danny Duke, Greg Phillips, along with keeper Rock Christeson, were not to be reckoned with.  "We are always looking forward to a good game when we play Mutiny FC," said one of Kodiak's defenders, Greg Phillips.  "Mutiny FC plays hard the whole game and we knew we had to be on top of our offense and defense."

Kodiak FC is happy to have their second win of the season, making it (2-0).  Their next game is on Saturday, May 4th, at time and location to be announced soon.

New Beginnings

Saturday, April 20th, marked the beginning of a new soccer season in the premier division of the Utah Soccer Association.

Kodiak FC is a brand new club in the premier division coached by Bob Capener and managed by Stephen Phillips and Taylor Hyde, with assistant managers Mike Erekson and Greg Phillips.  Kodiak FC is very grateful for their sponsor, Kodiak America Homes.

At Saturday's game, the team showed up early, portraying their dedication and excitement for the new season.  After many weeks of preseason training and fitness, the team was ready to get on the field and start seeing some positive results, which they did.

Scott Burrows found the back of the net twice during the game.  One of which was off of a free kick, won by Parker Howell.  The other goal was a one-touch volley off of the right foot.  The assist came from Josh Kimball.  Stephen Phillips was the final goal scorer of the game, carried the ball from the right side of the pitch and found nothing but net.  Everyone had a fantastic game.  Rock Christeson, Kodiak's goalkeeper, started out the season with a shutout, which has not been an easy task for other teams in previous seasons against OM.

The team is optimistic that they can continue to work on fitness, train, and build a unique and dynamic team chemistry.

We are all looking forward to the next game, Saturday April 27th, at 10am against Mutiny FC at Alta High School.
